I hope this isn't going to be a quick follow-up to LOTR--trying to strike while the griddle is hot.
I wonder if disappointment is avoidable. Some people have been upset by the textual infidelities in Peter Jackson's portrayal of the LOTR books. Since The Chronicles of Narnia are explicitly allegorical, I'm guessing that the movies' inevitable descrepancies from the books will be even more hotly protested. Especially by the Christian contingent.
Even so, I'm looking forward to it. The movies, that is.

Honestly though, with Disney and Walden Media calling the shots, is it even worth getting our hopes up? Lewis would roll over in his grave to see those two companies attempting to recreate his masterpiece. Oh well, like LotR, maybe it will still be good for entertainment value even if it lacks much of the substance of the real thing.

In several of his essays where he mentions fairy tales, he also takes some pretty harsh digs at Disney because he thought that they ruined every fairy tale they touched. So, I can't imagine him trusting Disney with his contributions to the fairy tale genre.
Posted by: kathryn at March 6, 2004 03:08 AMJames.. I was thinking that exactly. As much as C.S. Lewis was apposed to Disney's version of fairy tales, I would assume Disney would be the VERY LAST company he would pick to do the Cronicles of Narnia. I don't know what to think of it personally because these were my favorite books as a child and I don't want my vision of to be ruined if they don't do this well. LOL
